I'm working through several health issues these days. There's the stress fracture in my foot, which is healing, thanks to a wonderful podiatrist. I should be in good shape for our vacation in a couple weeks. There's also the matter of a biopsy next week for possible breast cancer. I'll know by Thursday what the results are, and I'll deal with things as necessary.

Work is going quite well. We launched a new version of our financial tracking system. (Which involved tossing the old and horrible version and redesigning/rewriting from scratch.) I'm now overhauling our staffing planning application based on feedback from the department admins and the finance director.

And the novel in progress... There is progress, even though I still have four chapters left to write. The middle chapters, however, just went through another editing pass, with lots of words added, and lots more replaced. (Chapter 10, in particular, has been especially thorny.) I plan to making a polishing pass through this middle section before I tackle the final section.

And in two weeks, Rome. *bliss*

Thank you! The biopsy was more painful that I expected, but I'm recuperating quite well. (Though I don't have the results yet. Tomorrow or Friday, they tell me.)

I think the waiting for information is the hardest part. Back a decade or so ago, I made a walk-in appointment to check out a suddenly-appearing set of discrete swellings in my neck and shoulders. Since I'd just had a friend deal with a serious bout of lymphoma that had first appeared with just that symptom, I was completely and utterly freaked out. And the initial doctor referred me to an ENT specialist a whole fucking week later and declined to discuss any of the possible causes for the symptoms. About halfway through the week, dealing with panic attacks and massive resulting insomnia, I called up the "patient services" number and gave them an earful about how I was feeling. Didn't change anything but made me feel better. (Symptoms ended up going away on their own and I think the doctor said something hand-wavy about an infection. But what sticks with me is the struggle to not think of the elephant in the room for an entire week to save my sanity.)

Yeah, waiting is one of the hard parts with all these exams, etc. The wellness center and my OBGYN were great. They got me an appointment as soon as they could, and they explained everything.

I now have a nifty heat/cold pack, which is helping.
